Job Summary

We’re looking for an engineer who is comfortable taking on tasks in different robotics fields and working as part of a multi-disciplinary team with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers. Day to day, you’ll implement and evaluate perception, planning, and control algorithms in a dynamic environment with challenging problems. This is a position offering flexibility and potential technical leadership opportunities down the road.

More than specific experience, we are looking for someone who is not content with a narrow focus and who likes to follow a project to completion. Ideal candidates will have a strong grasp of computer science fundamentals; a history of implementing and testing robotic algorithms; and experience deploying and supporting robotic solutions in a military, industrial, or automotive setting.

Robotics engineers at Quantum Signal AI develop cutting-edge mobile robotic systems, including:

  • Autonomous vehicles
  • Off-road robots
  • Advanced manufacturing solutions

What You’ll Do

You will be called upon to develop multiple aspects of these systems in an R&D environment with responsibilities such as:

  • Identify, adapt, and implement algorithms for sensing, planning, and control
  • Integrate and test software components on physical testbeds and under simulation
  • Characterize and evaluate system performance under simulation and with real hardware in representative environments
  • Design and evaluate sensor loadouts for various applications

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline where analytical thinking was emphasized
  • 2+ years of non-academic experience working on real-world robotic systems
  • Proven self-starter with a desire to work as part of a small team in a fast-paced, results-oriented R&D environment
  • Knowledge of:
    • C++ programming in a Linux environment
    • Software engineering practices, testing/verification, and the software development life cycle
    • Multithreading and networking
    • Robotic system integration and field testing
    • Adapting perception, motion planning, state estimation, or control algorithms for robotic systems
    • Perception (lidars, cameras, radars, ultrasonics/sonar, etc.) and pose (inertial, satellite-based, encoders, etc.) sensor performance and processing
  • Ability to understand, support, and debug complex systems with electrical, mechanical and software aspects

Bonus Points For

  • Master’s or doctorate degree in Robotics, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline
  • Strong background in sensing, localization, behavior, and path-planning for probabilistic robotics (including computer vision, vision-based localization and mapping, robot perception, robot behavior, and autonomous vehicle development)
  • Experience with:
    • Embedded and ROS development
    • Classical signal/image processing and machine learning techniques
    • Multi-jointed robotic arms and manipulators
    • Supporting technical development of junior team members
